On a recent California Trip, one of my target birds was the California Quail. Our first sighting of this quail was at an arboretum. They were hidden in some brush, most were females, but we did see a male. Eventually, some females ventured out a bit and I was able to get a “proof” shot of a Life bird before they all hid in the brush again. A few days later we went to another park and this time California Quails came out to introduce themselves to us. Males especially were in abundance. We put 32 on our ebird list, but I bet we saw more. Here two males sat on top a bush to survey the land.
