The grey head lapwing is a species which breeds in north east china and Japan. Winter visitor in south east asia from north eastern India to combadia. It is also known as microsarcops cinereus, Vanellus cinereus.
The male has a larger yellow wattles on its face. The females lays three to four brown speckled eggs on a ground in a small depression called scrape the male has a longer crest blacker breast and whiter faces. The juveniles and females have shorter crest and have scaly black appearance.
Lapwings are ground dwelling birds in the plover family known for their slow wing beats and shrill calls. They mainly feed on insects and earth worms helping to control insect polullation, they nest on ground lay 3 to 4 eggs, adults will give a loud call to distract predators from their nest, the life span is 5 yrs but the oldest wild bird lived for over 21 yrs.
