Mexican Sheartail

Mexican Sheartail Hummingbirds

Viewed 1 Time

We were walking along El Crucero Road near Cardel on a sunny afternoon, watching the Double-striped Thick-knees in a broad field. A lone tree stood along the fence line and in it was a hummingbird feeder. Our guide said the feeder attracted Mexican Sheartail Hummingbirds that were known to be in the area. I watched the feeder for nearly an hour, seeing only a female Ruby-throated, while the rest of our group walked down the road. As the afternoon progressed toward evening, the Mexican Sheartail Hummingbirds suddenly appeared. It was very neat to observe an approaching male challenge one that was perched.
