Contest – Mostly Red All Over

Mt. Pisgah is the dune directly behind Holland State Park. Birding this area, we never know what we may see. This Scarlet Tanager flew by and landed on the tree like a nuthatch or woodpecker. We have seen a Scarlet Tanager in flight or perched on a branch, never in this position. His beautiful red upper back, head and side is a great contrast to the tree background with some green lichens and his jet-black wings and tail.
