Wherever there is a dead animal/meat, whether road kill, planted (like this image), or natural, there is a definite order in which the vultures (nature’s garbage collectors) come. First, are the Turkey Vultures. This is because these birds have the best sense of smell. It is stated they can smell a decaying carcass from over a mile away. Then the Black Vultures follow the Turkey Vultures. It is stated that Black Vultures have the strongest beaks; they can tear open the carcass before it has completely rotted. Then, in the tropics at least, the King Vultures show up. They are the largest and in nature, size often rules. This shot was taken in Costa Rica. When I look at this image, I immediately think, “Here comes trouble”. The KV looks like he has a definite goal in mind
