While we were walking along the Jetty Park pier, among the many people fishing, Sheila spotted an unusual bird and asked me to take a photo that she could use for a rare bird alert post on e-Bird. Later we checked a range map and discovered that the Purple Sandpiper was at the extreme southern point of its winter range. It was a lucky find that we had not seen before in south Florida and was confirmed the next day by another e-Birder who also reported seeing it.
