It is also known as the pied wagtail and are native to the Indian sub continent. It is the largest bird in the wagtail family. The male is dark black while the the female is dull black, they are seen in pairs. The breeding season is march to October. In courtship the male shoots into the air with a single wing beat sings and glides with dangling legs and puffed feathers. It builds up a cup shape nest. In older times this species was kept as a cage bird because of its singing abilities. The incubation period is around 16 days both parents share the incubation. The clutch consists of 3 to 5 eggs. The chicks fledge after another 16 days.
