Getting ready to go back to Costa Rica. Even though Costa Rica is a small country, it can be time consuming driving from one place to another. Roads are narrow, often winding, and there is much local traffic. As a consequence we tend to concentrate on one general area when we go (this will be our 13th trip to CR), even though we will be there for a month. This bird, a Resplendent Quetzal, is one of the reasons we are going in the spring of the year. Both the male and the female feed the young (they are “cavity nesters”). I would like to get more images of these birds as they fly to the nest with food in their mouths for the young. Not easy, as often their nests are deep in the cloud forest, which means it is DARK. This shot was taken with a Canon R5, a OOF wire fence in the BG was removed. This is about 75% FF.

We were just in CR and went to a place that had 4-5 Quetzals around. I couldn’t get a shot of one flying or with food in its mouth -you got both in one shot. Not Fair! But excellent shot.
Sat a long time waiting for this bird to come. On the day this was taken, I sat for 8 hours. The female and male came a total of 5 times. And I was daydreaming on one of those-missed it totally.
Wow!
Cool birds aren’t they?
Definitely a wow photo.
Incredible!
