While in Arizona, we drove to Madera Canyon, which is about 30 miles south of Tucson, and went to the Santa Rita Lodge. The owner of the Lodge has maintained more than a dozen bird feeders for 20 years – to attract birdwatchers to his lodge. There was small flock of Pine Siskins at the feeders that were easily spooked. But when they were feeling secure, they appeared as a group! This three-column nyjer (thistle) feeder accommodated them perfectly! Hey – what’s that Lesser Goldfinch doing here?
