A Unique Way to Cool Off

This hot September day I spotted this Great Blue Heron along the edge of a pond at Stu Visser Trails. When I first spotted it, I thought something was wrong with its wings. Further inspection, we realized this bird was able to drop its wings and hold them out like an umbrella in an attempt to cool off. We were relieved to discover nothing was wrong with it.
