In past years Red-headed Woodpeckers were a difficult bird to see annually in Ottawa County. The high water of a few years ago killed many trees which enabled this species many nesting sites and an increase in their numbers. They found many nesting spots at Stu Visser Trail, where they had not been seen before. Many more people were able to enjoy the beauty of this species up close. This is a first year bird seen on August 20, 2023.
