The Shikra is a small bird of prey with a long barred tail and powerful wings. The shikra has a light breast and marked with reddish barring males and females differ slightly in their colors. The male has deep red eyes while females have orange yellow eyes. Shikra is known to be a fierce hunter. It feeds on lizards frogs and large insects. Both male female built the nest. Clutch consists of four eggs incubation period is 3 weeks, The males are light blue on top females are dark brown.
