Pileated Woodpecker

This male Pileated Woodpecker was hanging around our yard and calling to a female that was answering. He came down to the ground, was foraging in our yard, and stopped for a drink at this fallen palm frond that had filled with water.
I continued following the movements of both birds and found them drilling a nest hole on the north side of a dead pine in the preserve behind our house. Lucky spot! I’ve been watching them daily as they progress on drilling the nest hole.
