Anna's Hummingbird

Silk purse out of a sow’s ear

This is an example of trying to make up for a bad lighting angle in post processing. This Anna’s Hummingbird was attracted to a fountain spray in a backyard near San Diego, CA, trying to bathe and drink from the droplets in the air. Unfortunately the sun was coming from the L side at a fairly low angle and the solar fountain was sitting in a red shallow container. The BG was far away and covered in deep shade. All of this created some odd lighting and color cast on the bird. Still, I liked the pose and the situation. I tried to even out the lighting and tone down the color cast in PS. Success? Only partial in my opinion.

A compelling image nonetheless. Like it!

I can’t decide – my eyes are drawn to the water droplets and the space above-left. I’m curious why you chose to leave so much space there?
