Louisiana Waterthrush

Successful Mid-morning Snack (Water Contest)

Aman Park is a 331-acre preserve six miles west of the city of Grand Rapids and owned by Grand Rapids but is in Ottawa County. In the spring there are many species of wildflowers in bloom in abundance.

It also has many bird species and the Louisiana Waterthrush has bred in this park for many years. This is about as far north as they breed; except along Lake Michigan they go a few counties further north.

We often only hear this bird sing at this location as it is difficult to see as it scurries along the edge of the creek. We were lucky this day as it was in search of food along the water’s edge on this mossy log. It was successful in catching a snack.

The “blurry” background is a dirty pool of water.
