Avocet Afterglow—Water Contest

This pair of Avocets have just finished copulation. As part of their mating ritual, they cross bills and, often, the male will drape a wing over the female. That’s what’s happening here. The wing on the right is not the females. Hers is tucked into her body and the male has wrapped his wing around her.
