American Avocet

What’s Am I Doing? (Water Contest)

Viewed 2 Times

American Avocets pass by Holland State Park during spring and fall migration. They are usually foraging, running, or beach walking. This one stopped during its walk and ruffled its feathers. I do not know if she is also checking out the sky or if it is part of her movement.

If an American Avocet has a very upward curved bill, it is a female. If it is straighter with a small curve, it is a male. The companion photos of this bird show it is a female.
