This time of year, Rock Ptarmigan can be seen coming out of pure white winter plumage and transitioning into brown summer plumage. There were quite a few perched up on rocks and mounds, and plucking out their white feathers .. Males have a Scarlet Comb above their eyes during breeding season.
Rock Pt. is an Award Worthy shot if I ever saw one. Great composition – love how the comb picks up the color of the algae.
