Short-eared Owl
We spent 8 days in the Galápagos Islands traveling to 10 islands looking for the specialty birds on each.
We saw thousands of Wedge-rumped Storm Petrels flying over their breeding colony on lava flats on North Seymour Island. The target bird here was actually a Short-eared Owl that lives along side the Storm Petrels preying on them as a food source.
It was a windy day and this owl was located about 50 yards away. I took close-up shots by sitting on a rock and balancing my lens on my knees. I was pleased with the results!
