March is when we usually see migrant ducks coming to our backyard pond. Sometimes they stick around a few days, other times they are gone in a few hours. This pair of American Wigeons was new to the pond this year, and they didn’t stay long. The male has a brilliant green patch on the side of his head, which unfortunately didn’t show up in this photo on this dreary overcast day.
