This is a Cassin’s Finch, a greatly underappreciated bird, IMO, for beauty. This picture was taken at a water feature near Cabin Lake, Oregon. This manmade cistern is the only fresh water available during the dry season for miles. Needless to say, it attracts many birds. About 20 years or so ago, someone built a photo blind here; it is about 12-15 feet away from the water. Last May I was using a 500 mm lens on a full frame camera to take this picture. The bird virtually filled the frame. This picture has had a very small crop from the right side to remove some OOF concrete. If I had it to do over again, I would have used a 400 mm lens; that would have given me some composition flexibility and likely would have increased my DOF so the opposite leg and tail of the bird would have been in focus.

Such a good shot! Sharp and crisp. Interesting background on the area, too.
Easy when you are shooting at point blank range.
This is gorgeous!
Thank you. A greatly underrated bird for beauty, IMO.
Looks like the head of a rooster on a small bird. Just sayin.
