On our last hike at Grand Teton National Park, I heard the faintest tap on a tree. After scouring some trees, I finally found the woodpecker. I was not expecting a Three-toed Woodpecker, but am very glad it was. I’ve only seen this bird one other time and that was from a distance. As I was snapping off shots of this bird, other hikers were coming by and asking what I and my husband were looking at. We pointed out the bird, we shared our binoculars with one family, and a young couple who just started birding said that was a Life bird for them. Everyone seemed excited about seeing this woodpecker. Who knows, maybe a hiker or two have a new hobby now.

Great image and would have been a Lifer for me too! Was there a couple of years ago and such a magical place!
Great Take.
