Sometimes the difference between an “OK” image and a really nice one is a matter of a few minutes or a matter of a few inches in POV. This image demonstrates both. If this scene had taken place 15′ earlier, the BG and water would have been golden with the dawn light. If I had been standing a few feet higher or lower, I would have had either the water or the far bank of the lake as my background for this Double-crested Cormorant. As is, the far shoreline cuts through the bird’s wing. Oh well, I still like the bird’s wing position. This shot has been cropped heavily, about 30% FF. Otherwise little done in post.

Great shot of Cormorant. I wonder if giving up the reflection and zooming in on the bird would have helped – looks like you have plenty of definition in the bird.
