Bronzy Jacamar

Paul Demkovich

We saw Bronzy Jacamars several times, but always at great distances or in shadow. We found this one excavating a nest hole in an ant nest about 20 feet off the ground. While excavating the nest, it was faced away and its head was hidden. Occasionally it took a break from its work and flew away, returning a few minutes later. This was the best image I was able to capture as it flew away from its nest.
