Floreana Mockingbird
We spent 8 days in the Galápagos Islands traveling to 10 islands for the special birds on each.
There are four species of mockingbirds in the Galapagos. The Floreana was difficult to find and see. The population of these birds has declined to about a dozen pairs, so no one is allowed on Floreana Island to prevent disturbing the birds. Our boat cruised back and forth along the shoreline until we found one – but it was at a distance with its back to us. So we went snorkeling for an hour and later tried again to find the Mocking bird while cruising slowly along the shore. Another bird presented for a couple of minutes and perched nicely so reasonably good photos could be taken.
