Bonaparte's Gull
This immature Bonaparte’s Gull is probably just ending its first winter. The plumage shows brown on the wings and the head shows smudges of the black it will eventually turn to when it begins to breed. I was able to get a shot from above because the Bensenville Ditch is a huge hole filled with water. Standing on the rim allowed me to look down on flying birds.
