Guianan Cock-of-the-Rock

We drove to a remote stream-side outdoor restaurant and motel where guests were swimming in the stream. After lunch, we crossed the stream and walked about a kilometer through the jungle on a winding trail to arrive at a known Guianan Cock-of-the-Rock lek. The lek was not a clearing or a gassy area, but was instead an area within the jungle the birds recognized. We waited only a short while before the first male arrived. Within 30 minutes, seven males appeared. The males displayed, called and fussed at each other. I didn’t see any females.
