While birding at Sax-Zim Bog we were surprised to find that the Hairy Woodpecker outnumber the Downey Woodpecker by at least 5 to 1. I the Chicagoland area where we live it is quite the opposite, in fact I think Downeys outnumber Hairys 10 to 1 here.
