Birder2011 told me (in fact sent me a map) of where to find this Virginia Rail. It’s the first one I’ve seen in Illinois and after listening to it in the cattails for 20 minutes I had given up and was walking away. My wife Karen called me back because it popped out onto the grassy knoll. Guess I have to learn to be more patient when birding.
