Bald Eagle

I Did Not Need My Snow Goggles? (Birds of Prey with Prey)

It was a very snowy day on December 29, 2016, at Chippewa Point which is a road end on the edge of Lake Macatawa. We go out in all kinds of weather, never knowing what we may see. In the past there have been up to 46 Bald Eagles hanging around Lake Macatawa in the winter when part of the lake is still open.

This young Bald Eagle photographed through a snowstorm was successful catching a fish. Was it hoping the snow was blocking its approach? We have observed them catch fish and a friend saw an eagle take a duck.

In clear weather when a Bald Eagle approaches the flocks of ducks, most of them immediately dive to safety.
