I’m excited to let you know that this image (one of the four images I submitted to the 2026 In The Field Photo Contest at the Field Museum in Chicago) was selected as a winner for the Real-Life Diorama category. It will be displayed on the ground floor of the Field Museum beginning October 24.
My original GBP post comments: On Isla Fernandina, we followed a path across coastal lava flats dotted with clumps of cactus. Along the shore were hundreds of black Marine Iguanas sneezing salt and nearly as many Sally Lightfoot Crabs picking at bits among the rocks.
It was amazing to see this Galapagos Hawk fly past us and perch on a distant tree. After a few moments the hawk too off again, flew past us to the shoreline, swooped down, grabbed a small Marine Iguana, flew toward us, and landed on a short snag about 30 feet in front of us – simply amazing!
