Red-tailed Hawk

Mid-morning Snack (Birds of Prey with Prey)

We often drive the roads and hike the short trails at Harbor Island in Grand Haven, Michigan. I spotted this Red-tailed Hawk flying in from the northeast and land on this large branch. Checking it out with binoculars, it was evident it brought its mid-morning snack with it. We did not watch it partake of the rodent as I did not want it to frighten it and possibly abandon its food.

This photo shows all the beautiful patterns and features we usually no see on a Red-tailed Hawk as they are usually in the air or perched much further away. Note the size of its talons that enables it to catch prey.

I did remove some distracting branches.
