This photograph of a White-Crowned Sparrow had a couple of grass stalks going through its body and head (see previous photograph). Using Lightroom’s Remove and Generative AI feature I removed the stalks which you can see in this photo. Read the Blog Post on 9/16/26 for a discussion on AI and Bird Photography.

It’s a tough call. For me, I’m not a big fan of AI, not since I saw 2001 A Space Odessey when I was a kid.
Blankes (Blankespoor)
On balance, I am against the use of AI in bird Photography. Two reasons: (1) it would take away a bit of the excitrment of finding the “perfect” shot; (2) AI-related changes might substantially alter information about what is suitable habitat for the species photographed.

My 2 cents…
I am against the use of AI in a photograph that I intend to share publicly. I do not want to mis-represent myself as someone who frequently gets the “perfect” shot. I find it acceptable for my own personal prints or for sharing with friends. When sharing, I always admit to AI adjustments.
