Western Flycatchers

We spent several days in Aspen, Colorado this July and the Western Flycatchers seemed to be everywhere. We observed a pair with a nest but under an eve on top of an outdoor light fixture. The parents were continually catching insects, perching in a nearby tree to make sure the coast was clear, and then delivering the insect to their chicks in the nest. It was very sweet to watch.

The Western Flycatchers were once grouped with the Cordilleran Flycatchers., but they are now recognized as a separate species.
