Whopper of a Catch – take 2 – Birds of Prey Contest

A second image of the male osprey with a large shad captured off of the observation deck along the Dike Trail at Prime Hook NWR. As with some of my previous posted images, this is the male of the pair that has been nesting here for the past several years. Unfortunately, shortly after this shot was taken the male dropped the fish in order to fend off an approaching bald eagle as the female was on the nest incubating.
