Why Is This Picture Better Than The Next One?

I took two shots of the same Lesser Black-backed Gull. They are almost identical but I like this one better. Why? Respond in the Comments below.

Better crop/background. The second one cuts off the blurred gull in top center background

Yes, it bugs me when a bird in the background is cut off. Thanks for the response.
