Shadow or Not?

While on the Wildlife Drive in Custer State Park, South Dakota I came upon a Say’s Phoebe.  I snapped a couple pictures of the bird as it perched on a fence rail.  Not the greatest pictures, but they will do for purposes of this inquiry.

When I got home and began processing all my pics I wasn’t sure how to crop the Phoebe picture.  Here are two versions of the shot:

At first I was satisfied with the closeup (the top pic).  Then I noticed the long shadow of its tail on the fence and thought that might be more eye-catching.  Again, not the greatest picture of a bird, but the question here is whether the tail shadow makes the picture more interesting or not?  Your thoughts – you can reply to the email or enter your comments at the bottom of the post.  I look forward to hearing from you.

I like the second one best. Puts the bird in perspective. Just my opinion, probably wrong!
