Just some random thoughts today about items that have been kicking around in my head:
Images Uploaded To Site Multiple Times – I’ve noticed that sometimes a member will upload the same picture two or three times to the website. They will use one of them to create and entry, but I’m wondering if there is a glitch or something else causes this to happen? Let me know.
Comments Wanted – Compared to behemoth organizations like Facebook and Flickr, GreatBirdPics.com is a small website. I’ve seen some of our members post a picture on Facebook and get more comments there then views of the same picture here. So I encourage you to write a quick note of encouragement in the Comments section of any pictures you like – the authors will appreciate it!
3000+ Bogus New Member Registrations, and Counting – Every day I get 2-10 bogus new member registrations for the website. They can’t become a member without my authorization, but I still have to check every one to see if the request is legit or not. Many have an email that ends something like @XXX.ru – from Russia! It just show how valuable GreatBirdPics.com is if the Russians are so desperate to get in!
13630 Pics, and Counting – As of the date of this writing (6/4/25) you have shared an amazing 13,630 images to this website! Thanks to all who take the time to share your beautiful Great Bird Pics with us!
New Yard Bird -Karen and I were eating lunch out in our 3-season room when I looked through the windows and then punched Karen in the arm and practically shouted, “A Red-Headed Woodpecker at our feeder”! We love to see these birds out in the wild, but they are infrequently observed. We were floored to have one in our backyard.
