Touch Down and Take Off

Thank goodness for modern cameras and their ability to take many shots per second.  When birds are landing or taking off there is a split second in which they can be caught just above the water.  Just focus on one bird and hold down the shutter button and hope you capture the perfect moment.  Here are three excellent examples.

Some birds take a running start across the water, like this Common Goldeneye.  Avneet Kaur caught all the action.

 

Here’s a big White Pelican in the moment it has taken off from the surface of the Mighty Mississippi River.  Nice shot, JamesD!

 

Finally, Bajadreamer has captured a White-faced Ibis male as it is hopping toward a female in an attempt to capture her attention.  She ignored him.
