Rebecca Bowater, our New Zealand Naturalist, has been sharing her Great Bird Pics with us for years. Recently Photogirl10 joined us and she’s from Australia. Between the two of them we are getting some photos of birds quite different from those seen in the Northern Hemisphere. Take a look:
We have cuckoos in the Northern Hemisphere, but nothing like this Yellow-tailed Black-cockatoo from Photogirl10. It looks large!
Here’s another one from Australia by Photogirl10. The common name for it in Australia is Red-browed Finch but the “official” eBird/Clement’s taxonomy (which GreatBirdPics.com’s database is based on) calls it a Red-browed Firetail. Either way it is a beautiful little bird.
Rebecca Bowater has shared shots of Welcome Swallows before but I can’t recall a BIF shot as good as this one.
Finally, Rebecca shares a Common Chaffinch as it forages on the muddy ground. Look closely at all the colors on this one!
