GreatBirdPic.com’s Bird Photograph of the Week – 2/6/26

I hate today’s Bird Photograph of the Week by Birder2011.  I hate it because she got the shot and I didn’t.  We were on a Bird Tour with my wife Karen, Emil Baumbach, Jen, and Mike and we went to a farm with a giant ancient avocado tree in the middle of a clearing.  Resplendent Quetzals would regularly fly in and out of the tree to munch on the avocados.

Toward the end of our time there a beautiful male flew in so I went to the side of the tree where it landed and got a couple of good shots from the back.  The bird then shifted its position within the tree.  I stayed put, hoping it would return but Birder2011 immediately went to the other side of the tree.  When I looked over to that side Birder2011, Emil and five other photographers snapping away like crazy.  They motioned to me to join them but by the time I made it over there the bird had turned its back on me.

Birder2011 got the shot by going to the bird when it shifted position – whereas I didn’t.  Therefore I hate this picture and I hope you will too.

OK, maybe I don’t hate the picture, but I am very jealous.  Very.
