Mike Affinito recently shared several Great Bird Pics and I was impressed. Take a look:
Perhaps it’s coincidence but this Red-breasted Merganser coming in for a water landing looks like the Roseate Spoonbill pics I shared yesterday. There aren’t three shots so our only choice is to vote this one the best!
Here’s a straight-on, look-down-the-throat view of a Dickcissel in full song. I can almost hear it!
This Hermit Warbler was taken in Madera Canyon in Arizona 18 months ago. Looks like a tough capture in the leaves (and we know how much warblers move around).
Finally, a great shot of an American Dipper shaking the water off its body. I like his decision to include the entire brown rock the dipper is standing on – it improves the composition. “Why Do Dippers Always Look Dry?” is the title of this piece and Mike gives four reasons – click the pic to read about the Uropygial (Preen) Gland and three other ways it stays dry.
