MuskyMike is a fellow Chicagoland bird photographer that I have hooked up with on a couple of birding trips to Costa Rica and Texas. He takes great photographs (3X winner of the coveted $5 Shot award) but rarely shares them here. When I saw him post some pics from his recent trip to Iceland I just had to feature them. Maybe he’ll post some more of his Great Bird Pics again…
We’ll start with one of my favorites – this Rock Ptarmigan’s eye matches the color of the algae on the rock it is perched on! I love the wide crop, too, to present the whole beautiful rock.
Here’s another splash of red – this time on a Red-throated Loon. Do you like the composition with the loon on the left? I do. I bet he cropped it like that so the viewer can see the ripples in the water, giving a sense of motion in the shot.
Was MuskyMike laying on the wet grass to get this shot? I doubt it but how else could he have gotten this POV angle of Black-tailed Godwits mating?
MuskyMike went to the Puffin colony on Westman Island. He reports that there were over 80,000 Atlantic Puffins there and he was able to get as close as he wanted to them. First is a Puffin poking its head out from its burrow followed by a shot of one right after it came ashore after feeding out in the ocean.
Thanks for all the shots from Iceland, MuskyMike, and don’t be a stranger!
