This subspecies of snowy plover is endangered, needing very specific habitat and scarce to breed, in a similar situation as our great lakes piping plovers. I didn’t notice this flock of plovers until they started moving out of my way as I passed by.

What a wonderful set of pictures from your California trip! We were out there recently and I got pics of many of the same species but your pics are much better than mine. I particularly like the Oystercatcher pics – so sharp and on the oyster bed! The Canvasback pic is particularly good and I love the Surf Scoter taking off! I plan to feature several of your pics one day next week (so many good ones it might take two days). Thanks for sharing them all here – I appreciate it.
