While this is not your iconic picture of a Cardinal sitting in an evergreen tree in the snow, it certainly still demonstrates what a spectacularly beautiful bird this is. In my world, Northern Cardinals are desert birds.
We saw many cardinals in SW Texas and my wife thought they looked significantly different from those we are used to seeing in the North. Now I know why. Thanks for the education!
Iconic for out west! I forget how much bigger the crowns on the western subspecies of the Cardinal is. Great shot!
