After a disappointing evening of waiting for a Short Eared Owl to come closer than 100 yards away I started walking back to my car. The sun had just set and darkness was draping the open meadow. Halfway back I heard a call and turned around to see this bird angling somewhat close by. I quickly fired off a few shots not expecting anything worth keeping. To my surprise, the last shot had open wings, a hint of light and enough detail to make it a definite keeper.

Luck favors those who are prepared. Nice grab shot.
Great shot of the SEO! I’d be happy with shots 100 yards away as I don’t think I’ve been any closer than twice that. Great detail.
