We traveled 2-1/2 hours east from Ushuaia along the Beagle Channel on a boat with about 100 other people to Isla Martillo to see the Gentoo Penguins. This photo shows the breeding colony of about 80 birds. We did not land and had to struggle our way through the crowd for optimal viewing from the boat.
We were told that this colony started with one breeding pair several years ago and has grown to 40 breeding pairs since then.
In the same location were Upland Geese, many Imperial Cormorants, a few Magellanic Penquins, and a couple Chilean Skuas.
