Gentoo Penguin

Gentoo Penquins

We traveled 2-1/2 hours east from Ushuaia along the Beagle Channel on a boat with about 100 other people to Isla Martillo to see the Gentoo Penguins. This photo shows the breeding colony of about 80 birds. We did not land and had to struggle our way through the crowd for optimal viewing from the boat.
This is a close-up of penguins on their nests. Note the separation between the legs where the egg is kept warm.
Focal length 739mm – Without the long lens and a teleconverter, this image would not have been possible!
