Whistling Heron
The colorful Whistling Heron (Syrigma sibilatrix) is a medium-sized, mostly terrestrial heron of South America. It is often seen alone or in pairs, in more open and relatively drier situations than most herons. It flies distinctively. It has rapid, duck like wing beats, gliding to its landing. On Aruba it is a few times observed, and considered a “shoot-over” from the Latin continent.
