Green Jay

Sometimes the same species of bird looks totally different in different locations; now they are different.

This and the next picture posted used to be the same species-Green Jay. This picture is a bird photographed in southern Texas, near Mission, TX, in the Rio Grande Valley. This species is very successful here and is expanding its range. Note the blue crown, head and nape. Also note the large dark eyes. The next picture I will post is a similar bird in Ecuador on the eastern slope of the Andes. Look at the same areas-totally different. Sometimes the “powers that be” decide to split species. These are so called “armchair” birds. When you first see them they are one species-you add only one species to your life list. But when the ABA, or whoever, decides to split the species, even though you are sitting in your armchair, you can now add another species to your life list-a 2 for 1 (or very occasionally even a 3 for 1).
